What to see

Mount Bromo, edges tinged with white sulfur and always bubbling, is the major sights. To reach it on foot, take the left fork in Cemoro Lawang's solitary crossing, then head to the streets to caldera caldera and then across to the Hindu temple at the foot of the mountain. From the temple a steep path leads 250 steps to the edge of the crater and meter-wide ledge from where to not keep looking at volcanoes.

Along the road from Cemoro Lawang to Mt. Penanjakan, is the best way to get the views of the caldera without the crowds. To reach it, head west from Cemoro Lawang (past Cemero Indah) for 6 km, past farms and fields. Paved road eventually turned into a mountain path winding ended with a flight of stairs to the right, and viewpoint (with concrete shelter) is at the top. Allow 1.5 hours to climb up a steady pace, and carry the torch if you try this at night. From here, you can proceed to Mt. Penanjakan by following the trail upward, after the trail blends into the paved road to the viewpoint (total time about 60 minutes each way). If you plan to
